The idea

CelloBello serves cellists at every stage, from students looking for trusted instruction to professionals seeking events, repertoire and career opportunities. The challenge was to organize a broad collection of specialist resources into one coherent website where visitors could quickly learn, discover and participate without losing the warmth of a community-led organization.

Delivered scope

We built a custom WordPress experience around four connected areas - Lessons, Events, Libraries and Opportunities - supported by structured content, flexible editorial controls and purpose-built discovery tools.

One content ecosystem instead of disconnected sections

Custom post types, taxonomies and page templates give lessons, articles, events, jobs, competitions, grants, books, repertoire and releases their own information structure while keeping navigation and presentation consistent across the platform.

Lesson discovery built around how musicians search

Visitors can explore cello and ensemble lessons through cellists, composers, subjects, categories and formats. Featured, popular and recent groupings provide additional entry points, while related taxonomy pages connect people and repertoire back to relevant learning material.

Events and opportunities treated as first-class content

The Events Calendar ecosystem supports upcoming, past, recurring and virtual events, including organizer and venue details plus calendar exports. Dedicated job, competition, grant and workshop experiences add keyword search, filters, dates, deadlines and community submission paths.

Editorial flexibility without sacrificing structure

ACF-driven homepage modules allow editors to curate hero stories, events, articles, opportunities, fundraising and newsletter messaging. Where appropriate, query-based fallbacks keep sections useful when content is not manually selected.

Platform architecture

WordPress acts as the structured content and editorial core, while the custom theme turns specialist content models into focused journeys for learners, professionals, organizers and supporters.

Technical highlights

Built a custom responsive WordPress theme with dedicated archive, taxonomy, single-content and landing-page templates.

Created faceted discovery across lessons, events, jobs, competitions, grants, repertoire, books, releases and editorial content.

Integrated recurring and virtual events, organizers, venues, calendar views and Google Calendar, Outlook and iCal export paths.

Combined editor-curated ACF modules with automatic WordPress queries to balance control, freshness and day-to-day maintainability.

Added global search prioritization, social sharing, custom widgets, responsive navigation and community submission workflows.

Where the project landed

The finished platform provides one scalable foundation for CelloBello's educational mission. Visitors can move from learning resources to events, editorial material and professional opportunities within a consistent experience, while the organization can curate major homepage stories and maintain structured collections through WordPress. The project records do not include analytics, so the outcome is presented qualitatively rather than with invented performance claims.

Takeaways

This project shows how thoughtful information architecture and content modeling can turn a large specialist archive into a useful community product. Its strongest achievement is not a single feature, but the way education, discovery, professional development and participation reinforce one another within the same platform.
